FREEHOLD TWP, NJ, (December 09, 2024) - A Tuesday night crash in Freehold Township involving three vehicles claimed the life of a Howell resident, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

police lights car crashYasine Belkadi, a 20-year-old resident of Howell, was fatally injured after his vehicle collided with a cargo van on Jackson Mills Road in Monmouth County Tuesday night, officials said.

The tragedy unfolded at approximately 10:25 p.m. along Jackson Mills Road near Geisler Road.

Based on preliminary findings, 20-year-old Yasine Belkadi was driving north on Jackson Mills when he collided with a cargo van, which was then sideswiped on the passenger side by a third vehicle. Tragically, Belkadi died from injuries on Tuesday, while two other drivers were transported to a hospital with suspected moderate injuries.

The Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team and other agencies were at the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Drivers like Belkadi are killed in motor vehicle accidents across our country, and it is often not their fault.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 685 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes in the state of New Jersey in 2022.

While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Andrew G. Finkelstein, Managing Partner at Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices, said it is important that a competent attorney handles investigations into cases such as this to protect the rights of the victim's family.

"Serious accidents involving motor vehicles can bring physical, financial, and emotional trauma upon a victim. The results are more catastrophic when heavy-duty commercial vehicles, such as big rigs, are involved. Experienced attorneys familiar with such situations know ways to protect your rights and pursue compensation, added Finkelstein."

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Yasine Belkadi may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident such as this tragic incident.

"People who get into an auto accident suffer unimaginable consequences in the form of mental and physical pain, and, in cases of fatalities, the victim's family and loved ones are left devastated," added Finkelstein, who is also a national legal analyst for Newsline.

"It is always recommended that, as a victim, you don't give statements right away after the crash to an insurance company."

"You might be in shock, and anything said at the time may lower the chances of getting justice. Hiring an attorney will be the best route to protect your rights," added Finkelstein.
