FRESNO, CA, (August 12, 2025) - Richard Gomez, 36, was killed Tuesday morning in Fresno after being struck by a semi-truck while riding a scooter, authorities said.

fatal crashRichard Gomez, 36, was killed Tuesday morning in Fresno after being struck by a semi-truck, authorities said.

The incident occurred near the intersection of Gates and Blythe avenues, close to Highway 99. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office confirmed Gomez’s identity.

Officials reported that the semi collided with Gomez around 7 a.m., and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver remained at the location and cooperated with officers.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Large trucks can weigh up to 80,000 pounds and are difficult to maneuver. If involved in an accident, such heavy vehicles can cause severe injuries or death. In 2023, 4,354 people died in crashes involving large trucks. Sixteen percent of these deaths were truck occupants, 65% were passenger vehicle occupants, and 17% were pedestrians, bicyclists or motorcyclists, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Candice Bond, an experienced semi-truck accident attorney, noted that investigations into commercial vehicle crashes require a variety of resources.

“A skilled attorney can protect a victim's family from trucking companies, which often send their investigators to crash sites and possess a variety of resources they can utilize in an attempt to defend a negligent truck driver,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the family of a victim must be ensured that evidence is reviewed in an efficient manner.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Richard Gomez may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other damages resulting from a catastrophic accident.

“The stress and grief can be overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death attorney can guide families through the legal process, remain informed on the progress of the investigation, and work to ensure that their rights and best interests are fully protected.”
