Police say Taylor struck 5-year-old girl on scooter on Laning Road, leaving her seriously injured

SAN DIEGO, CA, (September 06, 2025) - Authorities say a 5-year-old girl suffered critical injuries Saturday after being hit by an alleged DUI driver in San Diego.

San Diego DUI Accident September 6th; 5-year-old Hit by Drunken DriverA 5-year-old girl was critically injured Saturday when she was struck by an alleged drunken driver in San Diego, and Savannah Monique Taylor was arrested in connection with the crash.

The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. on Laning Road near a closed park pathway. Investigators said Savannah Monique Taylor, driving a BMW 335i, struck the girl on a scooter before slamming into a tree.

A witness told officers that the BMW’s engine was revving loudly before it accelerated. The child was transported to a hospital in life-threatening condition.

Taylor was taken into custody at the scene, and police reported that alcohol played a role in the crash.

DUI CRASH INVESTIGATION

Intoxicated drivers often hit pedestrians, such as the innocent girl injured in this crash, because alcohol impairs judgment, slows reaction time, and reduces coordination.

These effects make it harder for drivers to react to traffic changes and avoid hitting pedestrians. Every year, approximately 300,000 innocent victims are injured in drunk driving accidents, according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, was interviewed and provided her thoughts on such incidents.

“Separate from criminal charges, a victim may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party, said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “As an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide an injured victim during this difficult time, protecting their legal rights, while ensuring that a driver who takes the wheel under the influence is held accountable for their actions.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The 5-year-old injured in this accident may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, noted that the stress and worry following a serious injury can be overwhelming, impacting all areas of life, including family, work, finances, and overall well-being.

“Although no amount of money can make up for a devastating injury, it is important that victims are aware of their rights and what they are legally entitled to,” Bond said. “The injured child in this collision may have grounds for a personal injury claim and could seek compensation for medical expenses, future care needs, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.”
