LOS ANGELES, CA, (September 06, 2025) - Authorities said a motorcyclist was killed in a traffic accident with a box truck Saturday morning on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway near downtown Los Angeles.

The victim was identified as 35-year-old Andrew Morcos by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. His place of residence was not released.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Morcos struck the truck at about 9:45 a.m. on the 5 Freeway just north of the Pomona (60) Freeway. He suffered fatal blunt force injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Candice Bond, an experienced commercial truck accident attorney, said that several factors can cause a box truck crash, including driver error and negligence, fatigue, and inexperienced drivers.

Commercial trucks, because of their massive size, can pose a major threat to other vehicles, especially motorcycles that, unlike cars, lack protective barriers. Fifty-one percent of deaths in large truck crashes in 2023 occurred on major roads other than interstates and freeways, 34% occurred on interstates and freeways, and 15% occurred on minor roads, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Regardless of the findings of any police investigation, Bond stressed that it is imperative to hire an attorney to conduct an independent probe into the cause of the crash to secure evidence and to protect the rights of a victim.

“Box truck crashes are often complex, and companies and municipalities often utilize large law firms to defend a negligent driver,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Andrew Morcos may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“We understand that losing a loved one is not only a deeply emotional loss but also an economic one,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“If you have lost a loved one due to someone else’s negligence, contact a wrongful death attorney to obtain the guidance needed and the justice you deserve.”
