The incident occurred at around 8:24 a.m. in the 300 block of East Morgan Street. Authorities said the driver claimed he did not see Killough crossing the roadway and tried to stop before the collision. Despite life-saving efforts, Killough was pronounced dead at the scene.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable road users due to the absence of protective features like seat belts, airbags, and bumpers. In Texas, pedestrian deaths have risen by 22% from 2019 to 2023, with approximately 808 fatalities reported in 2023 alone.

According to Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney, many of these tragic incidents are the result of driver negligence. “In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street, regardless of whether they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Bond.

She emphasized the importance of an independent investigation in cases like Ruth Killough’s to help protect the victim’s family. “An attorney can compassionately guide a family through this difficult time and work to ensure that any negligent party is held accountable.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Ruth Killough may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim following the tragic pedestrian accident in Cuero. Relatives of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain, and suffering.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their best interests are taken care of. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”
