pedestrian hit killedRoberto Perez, 46, was killed in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision early Friday morning in Ontario, authorities said.

According to the Ontario Police Department, Roberto Perez was struck by an unknown vehicle around 5 a.m. near the intersection of East Fourth Street and North Baker Avenue. Perez died at the scene due to his injuries.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The fatal crash that claimed the life of Roberto Perez early Friday in Ontario underscores the growing danger pedestrians face on U.S. roads. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), pedestrian deaths have surged by 78% and now make up 18% of all traffic-related fatalities.

“A motor vehicle driver can avoid crashes involving pedestrians—who are more likely to get hurt—by staying alert, traveling at safe speeds, and following pedestrian safety laws,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a nationally recognized pedestrian accident attorney.

“In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street, regardless of whether they are in a marked crosswalk,” Bond added.

She emphasized that an independent investigation is critical in incidents like this to protect the legal rights of the victim’s family. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be thoroughly examined,” Bond said.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Candice Bond, of counsel at Bond Legal, following the tragic death of Roberto Perez early Friday morning in Ontario.

The family of Perez may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. These civil actions may allow loved ones to seek compensation for loss of income and companionship, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth,” Bond explained. “However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
