CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
The tragic death of Patti Burns, who was fatally struck while crossing the street in Rancho Cucamonga, reflects a growing concern in California: the steady rise in pedestrian fatalities.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), pedestrian deaths in California have surged by 78% since hitting their lowest point in 2009. Advocates stress that drivers must remain vigilant and exercise caution—especially in areas where pedestrians are at greater risk.
“In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street regardless of whether they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a nationally recognized pedestrian accident attorney.
Bond emphasized the importance of a thorough, independent investigation to establish liability in cases like this. “Having the proper resources is extremely important in order to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” she said.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the results of the ongoing investigation, the family of Patti Burns may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim for the loss of love, support, and companionship following her tragic death in a Rancho Cucamonga pedestrian accident.
“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help protect their legal rights and best interests.”
Bond also warned that insurance companies may attempt to offer quick, undervalued settlements or deny claims entirely. “An attorney can protect your rights and ensure that you are not taken advantage of,” she added.
