FATAL PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Pedestrians like 79-year-old Makhan Singh, who was tragically killed Tuesday on State Route 11 in Malone, continue to face increasing risks on U.S. roadways. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian fatalities have surged 41% since 2008 and now account for 16% of all traffic deaths.

“While it is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian, those on foot still face everyday dangers in this country,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and national analyst for The Legal Advocate. “In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street regardless of whether they are in a marked crosswalk.”

Bond emphasized the importance of an independent investigation in cases such as Singh’s, noting that crucial factors—such as road conditions, signage visibility, and lighting—must be thoroughly evaluated to determine potential negligence.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important in order to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” Bond said. “These procedures are necessary to help families who have lost loved ones receive the justice they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the ongoing investigation, the family of Makhan Singh may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. This type of civil action could provide compensation for funeral expenses, emotional suffering, loss of companionship, and other damages resulting from the tragic loss.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
