A 54-year-old Texas resident was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries, authorities say
MOBILE, AL, (September 18, 2024) - A Wednesday morning crash in Mobile County involving three commercial vehicles claimed the life of a Louisiana resident, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said.
Kenneth L. Barker, a 30-year-old resident of Louisiana, was identified as the fatally injured victim of a three-vehicle crash that happened west of Mobile Wednesday morning, troopers said.
It happened at about 9:35 a.m. on Interstate 10 near the 1-mile marker, located around 13 miles west of Mobile.
Based on preliminary information, Kenneth L. Barker, 30, of Franklinton, Louisiana, was driving a 2023 Peterbilt tractor-trailer that collided with a 2016 Kenworth tractor-trailer, causing the Kenworth to collide with the rear of a 2020 Freightliner tractor-trailer. Tragically, Barker died from his injuries at University Hospital.
The Kenworth driver—only identified as a 54-year-old from Texas—was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries, according to the report.
Troopers are investigating.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), driver-related factors were recorded in 2,554 of the 7,368 (34.7%) fatal semi-truck crashes during a recent two-year period.
Candice Bond, an experienced semi-truck crash attorney, noted that investigations into semi-truck crashes require various resources.
Representing a grieving client’s family, an attorney can investigate the accident scene, closely examine the rig, the truckers, and the trucking company’s logbooks and other records to preserve evidence.
“Tractor-trailer crashes are often complex, and many factors can play a role in these types of accidents,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the investigation, the family members of Kenneth L. Barker may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.
“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.
“A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that the victim's legal rights and best interests are protected.”
