Elderly Man Killed in Crash on FM 1959, Authorities Report

HOUSTON, TX, (July 03, 2025) - A 72-year-old man was fatally injured in a pedestrian crash Thursday night on FM 1959 in Houston, police said.

Police Lights car crashJames Morris, 72, was struck and killed by a vehicle Thursday night in Houston, according to authorities.

The collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. when a blue Honda Odyssey traveling southbound struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the roadway. The victim, identified as James Morris, was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Authorities said the 59-year-old driver of the Honda remained at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Without the protection of airbags, seat belts, or a vehicle frame, pedestrians face extreme risk in traffic collisions. Even at low speeds, these incidents can result in severe injuries or death. In 2023, Texas reported 5,924 pedestrian-involved crashes, leading to 808 fatalities and 1,457 serious injuries, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

“In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street, regardless of whether they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a veteran pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond emphasized that each case is unique and requires a thorough, independent investigation. “Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the family of the victim must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently,” she said.

She added that a seasoned legal advocate can help protect the rights of the victim’s family and ensure that all responsible parties are held accountable.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of James Morris may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for the loss of love and companionship.

The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident, said Candice Bond, managing partner at Bond Legal.

We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.
