1 Killed, 1 Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash Wednesday Afternoon on Highway 58
KERN, CA, (June 18, 2025) -
A two-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon near Tehachapi in Kern County claimed the life of a wrong-way driver and left another motorist injured, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A Dodge Ram pickup driver was injured Wednesday afternoon after a wrong-way vehicle driven by Corrina Guitron collided with them on Highway 58 in Kern County.
The collision occurred around 1:31 p.m. on Highway 58 near Highway 202. Authorities said 40-year-old Corrina Mckenzie Guitron of Ridgecrest was driving a Jeep westbound in the eastbound lanes when she collided head-on with an eastbound Ram 1500 pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup suffered unspecified injuries and was transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment.
Guitron was fatally injured in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Tragic incidents like this often could be prevented if drivers strictly followed traffic laws—unfortunately, that was not the case here.
Wrong-way driving is a serious hazard that puts all road users at risk. These types of crashes can stem from a variety of factors, including driver error, distraction, intoxication, and even flawed road design. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), approximately 75 percent of wrong-way crashes involve drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“Factors such as road conditions, lighting, and visibility must all be carefully evaluated,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “In many cases, an accident reconstruction team is essential for determining what exactly occurred.”
Bond, a nationally recognized auto accident attorney, added, “Thorough investigations and access to the right legal resources are crucial for helping victims or their families seek justice and recover financial compensation after a devastating collision.”
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim.
“Injured individuals involved in a crash often turn to personal injury claims to recover the cost of medical expenses, ongoing treatment, lost wages, emotional distress, and pain and suffering,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“Unfortunately, insurance companies are often more focused on minimizing payouts than on the well-being of victims. That’s where a skilled attorney steps in—to advocate for the injured and hold insurers accountable for their responsibilities,” Bond added.
