Toyota Camry driver detained in connection with pedestrian accident on Old Woman Springs Road
LANDERS, CA, (August 12, 2025) - An impaired driver making an unsafe turn is believed to have caused a crash that left a 26-year-old Yucca Valley man critically injured Tuesday afternoon in Landers.
William Norris Adams sustained serious injuries in a collision with a woman driving a Toyota Camry on Old Woman Springs Road near La Brisa Drive.
The California Highway Patrol reported that around 2:30 p.m., a 41-year-old Yucca Valley woman was driving a Toyota Camry south on Old Woman Springs Road near La Brisa Drive when she veered onto the shoulder and struck William Norris Adams, who was standing near his truck.
Adams was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree and later airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
Authorities said the woman was intoxicated at the time and arrested her on suspicion of DUI causing bodily injury and vehicular manslaughter.
ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION NEEDED
The crash that left Adams seriously injured underscores the dangers that pedestrians face on roadways each day in this country. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 104,000 pedestrians were treated in emergency departments for crash-related injuries in 2020. The CDC noted that pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely than passenger vehicle occupants to be killed in a car accident.
Such crashes often result from distracted driving, speeding, impaired and negligent driving, and road conditions that prioritize motor vehicles over pedestrians.
Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian attorney, noted that in cases such as this, it is imperative to have an independent probe conducted by a seasoned lawyer to help protect a victim’s rights.
“Having the proper resources is extremely important in order to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for The Legal Advocate. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must be thoroughly examined. These procedures are necessary for helping those injured receive the monetary compensation they deserve as they recover from an injury.”
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
Pending the outcome of the investigation, William Norris Adams may be entitled to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, explained that the stress and uncertainty following a serious injury can deeply impact every aspect of life — from family and work to finances and overall well-being.
“It is crucial for victims to have an attorney handle their personal injury claim so they can focus on recovery while their lawyer negotiates with the insurance company,” Bond said. “Insurance providers often push for quick settlements that are far less than what victims deserve. An experienced attorney will fight to ensure clients are treated with respect and receive the full compensation they are entitled to.”
