Three Dead in Sacramento Crash, DUI Suspected

SACRAMENTO, CA, (August 02, 2025) - Three people died in a fiery crash involving a suspected drunk driver early Saturday morning in Sacramento, authorities reported. The impaired driver was later taken into custody at Sacramento County Jail.

police lights car crashOfficials report that Hashmatullah Durrani and two others died in an early Saturday morning Sacramento crash involving a suspected drunk driver.

The collision occurred near Roseville Road and Connie Drive around 12:45 a.m. Initial reports indicate a Ford F-150 and a Dodge Charger were involved. The Ford rolled over after impact, while the Dodge caught fire. All three occupants of the Dodge—Mohammad Durrani, 22, and Hashmatullah Durrani, 24, both of Sacramento, and Omar Durrani of Fremont—were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Ford driver, a 27-year-old man, allegedly showed signs of intoxication and was arrested on August 7 on charges of DUI causing great bodily injury or death. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Drunk driving continues to claim lives on U.S. roads, despite widespread awareness campaigns, tough laws and devastating statistics. The tragedy is that these deaths are entirely preventable. One person was killed in a drunk-driving crash every 42 minutes in the United States in 2023, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association.

An independent investigation will be required to learn other potential factors in the case, including the results of a test or tests to determine the blood-alcohol content levels of the driver.

Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, was interviewed and provided her thoughts on incidents such as this one.

“Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a victim during this difficult time, protecting their legal rights while ensuring that drunk drivers are held accountable for their reckless actions,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family members of the Durranis may be entitled to a wrongful death claim to recover medical and funeral expenses, as well as compensation for the loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“An incident is considered a wrongful death when a person or entity commits a negligent or wrongful act that leads to someone’s death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“When fatalities occur in vehicle accidents caused by unsafe driving, aggressive or distracted driving, speeding, or driving under the influence, the victim’s family often has the option to pursue a civil claim against the responsible driver.”
