TUSCALOOSA, AL, (August 23, 2025) - The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) provided new details regarding a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Tuscaloosa County. Officials reported that a 2002 GMC Yukon traveling on U.S. Highway 11 veered off the road near Cedar Cove Loop Road around 5:30 a.m.

SpeedwayTresda Caddell was killed Saturday morning when the SUV she was riding in crashed and flipped over on U.S. Highway 11 in Tuscaloosa County.

The SUV then struck an embankment, hit a utility pole, and flipped before coming to rest. Tresda M. Caddell, 38, of Tuscaloosa, was ejected from the vehicle and tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, 975 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the state in 2023, accounting for a fatality rate of 1.36 per hundred million vehicle miles (HMVM), slightly above the national average of 1.26.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says speeding is the leading cause of fatal crashes, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to stay in the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

“Contributing factors to be examined include road conditions, visibility, and lighting,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“It is imperative to come to a determination of the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses. We carefully guide the family of the victim through the process,” added Bond, a national legal analyst with The Legal Analyst.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Tresda Caddell could pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families are going through, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will stay informed on the official investigation and help ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are safeguarded.”

“An attorney can shield victims from large insurance companies and their legal teams while carefully examining the facts of the accident. They will vigorously advocate for a family who has lost a loved one, making certain their legal rights are fully protected.”
