One Dead, Another Injured in Sierra Highway Head-On Collision
CANYON COUNTRY, CA, (September 04, 2025) - A head-on collision between a sedan and an air-conditioning van Thursday afternoon in Canyon Country left one person dead and another hospitalized, authorities said.
Authorities reported that a head-on collision in Canyon Country Thursday afternoon left one person dead and another injured.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified the deceased as Sinai Barraza. Early reports indicate Barraza, 18, a Santa Clarita resident, was driving southbound on Sierra Highway when he crossed into the northbound lanes for reasons still under investigation, striking the van around 3:33 p.m. He died from his injuries at the scene.
The van’s driver was transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
There is little or no chance to take evasive action when a speeding driver veers into an oncoming lane directly in front of other vehicles. Head-on crashes are often severe and lead to catastrophic injuries—and many times fatalities.
While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said that it’s imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney.
“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for The Legal Advocate.
“Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide an injured victim during this difficult time while vigorously protecting their legal rights and best interests.”
“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” noted Bond.
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
Pending the results of the investigation, the victim injured in the crash may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, noted that the stress and anxiety following a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting all aspects of life, including family, work, finances, and overall well-being.
“It is crucial for victims to hire an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, as an attorney can negotiate with insurance companies on their behalf,” Bond added.
“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims into accepting a quick payout far below the true value of the case. An attorney will advocate vigorously to ensure clients are treated with respect and receive fair compensation.”
