SACRAMENTO, CA, (July 21, 2025) - A 37-year-old man was tragically killed Monday after being struck by a light rail train while riding an electric scooter in Sacramento.

Authorities identified the victim as Rittick Kumar Gupta. The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. near the intersection of 19th and T Streets, according to police.
A GoFundMe has been created to support Gupta’s grieving family. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Train accidents like this one can be caused by a range of factors, including operator negligence, track defects, mechanical failures, signaling issues, or unsafe pedestrian access.
According to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), 2023 saw 1,334 pedestrian-rail casualties nationwide, including 718 fatalities and 664 injuries. California recorded the highest number of deaths, with 195 fatalities. As part of the investigation into this incident, authorities will also examine whether the crossing area where Mr. Gupta was struck had adequate pedestrian safety measures in place.
