BRENTWOOD, CA, (August 29, 2025) - A 67-year-old woman, Nga Nguyen, was fatally struck by an unoccupied, rolling work truck in Brentwood on Friday morning, authorities said. The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. on the 16500 block of West Park Lane Circle.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), Nguyen suffered traumatic injuries and died at the scene.

Police confirmed that the work truck was unoccupied and rolled backward, hitting Nguyen. The circumstances of how the truck began to roll are currently under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Pedestrian deaths are increasing due to a mix of factors—larger vehicles, poor pedestrian infrastructure, and unsafe driving habits. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association's preliminary report, 7,148 people were struck and killed by drivers across the country in 2024.

“In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street regardless of if they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, noted that in cases such as this, it is imperative to have an independent probe conducted by a seasoned lawyer to help protect the rights of the victim.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important in order to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Based on the investigation, the family of Nga Nguyen may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for the loss of love and companionship.

"The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident," said Bond, of counsel with Bond Legal. "We understand what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help protect their legal rights and best interests."

Bond also added that "insurance companies may try to take advantage of your lack of knowledge of the law and offer a low settlement or deny your claim altogether. An attorney can protect your rights and ensure that you are not taken advantage of."
