CATHEDRAL CITY, CA, (June 29, 2025) - A Cathedral City man was seriously injured Sunday afternoon after being struck from behind by a vehicle on Date Palm Drive near Perez Road. The bicyclist was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Miguel Angel Romero Vallejo was arrested after a hit-and-run crash in Cathedral City left a bicyclist seriously injured, officials reported.
Authorities say the driver, identified as 22-year-old Miguel Angel Romero Vallejo of Desert Hot Springs, fled the scene on foot but was later arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run causing injury. He is currently held at Benoit Detention Center.
The bicyclist’s identity has not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
California law clearly states that fleeing the scene of a crash is a crime, yet some drivers still choose to drive away, endangering victims’ lives. Since 2006, an average of 682,000 hit-and-run crashes have occurred annually, with nearly 65% of fatalities involving pedestrians or bicyclists, according to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of timely, independent investigations by seasoned attorneys to protect victims’ rights.
“Proper resources are critical to thoroughly investigate hit-and-run cases and prove negligence,” Bond said. “These steps help injured victims seek justice and fair compensation while ensuring the driver responsible is held accountable for their reckless actions.”
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
Pending the investigation results, the bicyclist injured in the crash may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Candice Bond noted that the stress and worry following a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting all areas of life including family, work, and finances.
“It is crucial for victims to hire an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, as this allows negotiation with insurance companies on their behalf,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“Insurance companies often pressure victims to accept quick settlements far below the case’s true value. However, an attorney will vigorously advocate to ensure clients are treated fairly and compensated properly.”
