Pickup truck driver charged with gross vehicular manslaughter after Saturday crash on Adams Avenue

ORANGE COVE, CA, (June 28, 2025) -

One person died, and a driver faces felony charges after a hit-and-run involving a pickup and a bicycle in Fresno.

Bike LaneAmanda Maldonado was fatally struck Saturday evening by a hit-and-run driver while cycling on Adams Avenue in Orange Cove.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 struck bicyclist Amanda Maldonado, 38, near Cove Avenue on Adams Avenue at about 9:30 p.m. The driver fled but was later identified.

Maldonado, an Orange Grove resident, died at the scene. She was carrying a handheld light for visibility.

The driver, a 41-year-old woman from Orosi, was charged with felony gross vehicular manslaughter.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

In many hit-and-run cases, at-fault drivers believe they can evade consequences by fleeing the scene, but they face charges once caught. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reports that over one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute in the U.S., averaging 682,000 annually since 2006.

Of the 1,377 bicyclist deaths in 2023, 937 were due to motor-vehicle crashes, with the rest from other incidents, per the National Center for Health Statistics.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasized the need for prompt, independent investigations by experienced attorneys to protect victims’ rights.

“Proper resources are critical to investigate hit-and-run cases and prove negligence,” said Bond. “Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are key factors examined.”

Such thorough investigations help families seek justice and fair compensation after losing a loved one to a hit-and-run driver.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Amanda Maldonado may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident like this.

“The stress and sorrow after losing a loved one can be overwhelming,” said Candice Bond, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families endure, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will stay informed on the investigation and work to safeguard their legal interests.”
