High-Speed Accident on Main Street Kills 2, Injures 5 Others

SANTA ANA, CA, (August 04, 2025) - A violent wrong-way crash Monday night in Santa Ana left two people dead and five others injured, including an 11-year-old child, according to local police.

Police Lights car crashA wrong-way driver speeding through Santa Ana Monday night crashed into multiple vehicles, killing himself and another driver, identified as Leticia Placencia Alvarado, according to officials.

The collision occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Main Street and Warner Avenue. Authorities say a 29-year-old man was driving northbound on Main Street at an estimated 80 mph when he veered into oncoming traffic. The wrong-way driver, a Santa Ana resident, struck three other vehicles, triggering a multi-car crash.

Leticia Placencia Alvarado, 32, also of Santa Ana, was fatally injured in the wreck. Both she and the wrong-way driver were pronounced dead at the scene.

Five additional individuals were transported to a hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. A fourth vehicle was also involved, though its driver was not injured.

The Santa Ana Police Department is actively investigating and urges anyone with information to contact their Traffic Division at 714-245-8200.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Although wrong-way accidents are not frequent, the chances of a vehicle occupant getting killed or injured are very high. More than 400 people are killed in wrong-way crashes each year across the country, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said. About 60–75% of these involve drunk drivers.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined,” said Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney and a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.

It is imperative to come to a determination of the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Leticia Placencia Alvarado may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members can seek compensation for damages such as loss of companionship, emotional suffering, pain and suffering, and other hardships following a devastating accident like this.

“The grief and heartbreak families experience after the sudden loss of a loved one can be overwhelming,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“We understand the emotional and legal challenges that arise in the aftermath of such tragedies. A wrongful death attorney can help ensure that the family’s rights are fully protected while staying informed on the investigation and guiding them through the legal process,” Bond added.
