71-year-old Fair Oaks man identified as suspect in fatal West Sacramento hit-and-run

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA, (August 02, 2025) - Two teenage girls were tragically killed Saturday night after being struck by a hit-and-run driver at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Bevan Road in West Sacramento.

Hit-and-run Layla Chrissa Clemons, 17, was tragically identified as one of two teenage girls fatally struck by a vehicle Saturday night at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Bevan Road in West Sacramento, authorities said.

The Yolo County Coroner identified one of the victims as Layla Chrissa Clemons. According to police, both 17-year-old girls were hit by an unknown vehicle at around 9 p.m. and sadly succumbed to their injuries.

Authorities later arrested a 71-year-old man from Fair Oaks in connection with the deadly crash. The incident remains under active investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Staying at the scene would not only mean that you obeyed a law; the action could save a life. Nearly 65 percent of people killed in hit-and-run crashes were pedestrians or bicyclists, according to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney and a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

Added Bond, the national analyst for The Legal Advocate, “The driver always has to take great care behind the wheel.”

An attorney will carefully review what may have contributed to the crash and has the resources to hire expert witnesses, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Layla Chrissa Clemons may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other damages resulting from a catastrophic incident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death attorney will remain closely involved in the investigation and work to ensure that the victim's rights and the family’s best interests are fully protected.”
