ALBANY, CA, (June 27, 2025) -

A 40-year-old Oakland man, Daniel Alejandro Oliva Morales, tragically lost his life early Friday morning in a crash involving a semi-truck in Albany.

Authorities say Morales was driving a Hyundai around 3:45 a.m. when it collided with a big rig at the I-80/I-580 split near Buchanan Street. A Toyota was also involved in the incident.

The impact sent the Hyundai off the side of the freeway overpass, where it landed on its roof on Buchanan Street. DoorDash delivery bags were found scattered near the wreckage.

Morales succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

FATAL SEMI-TRUCK ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Authorities are working to determine what led to the collision that claimed the life of Daniel Alejandro Oliva Morales.

Crashes involving tractor-trailers can be caused by numerous factors, such as vehicle failure, driver fatigue, or loss of control. These incidents are often complex and require thorough investigation.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national legal analyst, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation. “Tractor-trailer crashes involve many variables,” Bond said. “Trucking companies often act quickly to defend their drivers, which is why a skilled attorney is critical. They can gather key evidence, consult experts, and help ensure the family’s rights are protected throughout the legal process.”

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration reported 4,761 fatalities in large truck crashes in 2017, with tractor-trailers involved in nearly 70% of those incidents.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending results of the investigation, the family of Daniel Alejandro Oliva Morales may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of love and companionship, funeral costs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this tragic incident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
