CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Pedestrian deaths continue to rise across California, with drivers urged to exercise greater caution—especially in high-risk areas. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (COTS), approximately 893 pedestrians were killed in 2018 on the state's roadways, marking a 26% increase from 2014.

“In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street, regardless of whether they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, a seasoned pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond, who is Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation in fatal pedestrian cases.

“Each case is unique and must be investigated thoroughly. Time is of the essence in situations like this, and the victim’s family must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently to protect their legal rights.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. The family of Courtney N. Lewis may be entitled to a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident,” Bond added.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth,” she noted. “However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
