Fatal Collision Occurred at Grevillea and Marine Avenues

LAWNDALE, CA, (August 11, 2025) - An allegedly impaired driver who struck another vehicle and killed a father of two in Lawndale is facing multiple charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, authorities said.

police lights car crashFamily members in Lawndale have identified Cody Sanders as the victim of a fatal multi-vehicle crash involving a suspected drunk driver that occurred Monday morning.

The victim, identified by family as Cody Sanders, worked as an inspector for JLM Environmental and leaves behind a fiancée and two children. The crash occurred Aug. 11 around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Grevillea Avenue and Marine Avenue as Sanders left the office for his first appointment. A third, unoccupied vehicle was also involved, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver of the other car was allegedly under the influence. Authorities have not released the driver’s name. Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call 310-219-2750. The investigation is ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Alcohol-impaired driving often leads to crashes, but some people continue to take the risk—putting themselves and others in serious danger. From 2014 to 2023, drunk-driving crashes claimed about 11,000 lives annually on average, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA).

An independent investigation will be required to learn other potential factors in the case, including the results of a test or tests to determine the blood-alcohol content levels of the driver.

Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, was interviewed and provided her thoughts on incidents such as this one.

“Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a victim during this difficult time, protecting their legal rights while ensuring that drunk drivers are held accountable for their reckless actions,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Cody Sanders may be entitled to a wrongful death claim to cover medical and funeral expenses, loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.

“An incident is considered a wrongful death when a person or entity’s negligent or wrongful actions result in someone’s death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“When fatalities occur in vehicle accidents due to unsafe, aggressive, or distracted driving, speeding, or driving under the influence, family members often have the option to pursue a civil action against the responsible driver.”
