Early Saturday DUI Crash on Gallatin Road
DOWNEY, CA, (August 16, 2025) - A vehicle crashed into a Downey home on Aug. 16, killing 73-year-old Agia Guirguis and injuring another resident.
Agia Guirguis died after a suspected drunk driver crashed into her Downey home, injuring a second woman who was hospitalized.
Guirguis died at the scene from blunt force injuries. The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. in the 9500 block of Gallatin Road, just west of the Santa Ana Freeway.
Authorities said a 24-year-old man from Maywood was driving east on Gallatin Road when his car left the roadway and slammed into the residence. Police arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
A 24-year-old woman inside the home sustained injuries and was taken to a trauma center. The driver was not injured in the crash.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed Guirguis’ identity on Monday, listing blunt force injuries as the cause of death. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
Despite crackdowns throughout this country, impaired drivers remain a threat to innocent, law-abiding victims.
The consumption of alcohol can diminish the ability to operate a motor vehicle. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 13,524 of the 42,514 people who were fatally injured in motor vehicle crashes in 2022 were involved in alcohol-related incidents.
An independent investigation will be required to learn other potential factors in the case such as blood-alcohol content levels.
Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, was interviewed and provided her thoughts on incidents such as this.
“Separate from criminal charges, a victim may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party, said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and text records of the liable party. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide an injured victim during this difficult time, protecting their legal rights, while ensuring that a driver who takes the wheel under the influence is held accountable for their actions.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the investigation, the family of Agia Guirguis may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident like this one.
“The stress and grief after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.
“We understand what families endure, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are fully safeguarded.”
