Driver Cited After Hitting Motorcyclist on Bergen Turnpike Tuesday Night
LITTLE FERRY, NJ, (July 01, 2025) - Chandler Dippel, 25, has died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash that occurred Tuesday night in Little Ferry, according to local police.
Chandler Dippel died days after a vehicle making an improper turn struck the motorcycle he was riding on Bergen Turnpike in Little Ferry.
Authorities say Dippel was riding his motorcycle southbound on Bergen Turnpike around 11:45 p.m. when a northbound 2013 Toyota attempted a left turn across a double yellow line into the Early Bird Laundromat parking lot. The Toyota struck Dippel’s motorcycle during the turn.
Dippel was critically injured and transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he sadly passed away on Saturday.
The 40-year-old driver of the Toyota was cited for making an illegal left turn. The crash remains under investigation.
MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
Drivers must exercise extra caution to protect vulnerable road users like motorcyclists, who face significantly higher risks on U.S. roads. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 6,530 motorcyclists were killed in 2021—a 9% increase from 2020. Motorcyclists are nearly 29 times more likely to die in a crash per mile traveled than occupants of passenger vehicles.
Following the tragic death of Chandler Dippel in a motorcycle crash on Bergen Turnpike, legal experts stress the importance of a thorough and independent investigation.
Andrew G. Finkelstein, Managing Partner at Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices, emphasized that accident reconstruction is vital in cases like this. “It is essential to reconstruct the accident to identify all the vehicles involved and determine the circumstances that led to the accident or the driver at fault,” Finkelstein said.
He added that insurance companies rarely act in the best interest of victims or their families. “According to the Insurance Research Institute, on average, an injured person who receives help from a lawyer ends up receiving three and a half times more money than those who do not.”
Experienced attorneys, particularly those familiar with motorcycle crashes, can ensure that a victim’s family is guided through every legal step and that their rights are fully protected.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Chandler Dippel may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Such claims can seek compensation for emotional distress, pain and suffering, loss of companionship, and other damages resulting from a catastrophic incident like this tragic motorcycle crash.
"People who get into an auto accident suffer unimaginable consequences in the form of mental and physical pain, and, in cases of fatalities, the victim's family and loved ones are left devastated," said Andrew G. Finkelstein, Managing Partner at Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices and a national legal analyst for The Legal Advocate.
Finkelstein cautioned grieving families against making early statements to insurance companies. "You might be in shock, and anything said at the time may lower the chances of getting justice. Hiring an attorney will be the best route to protect your rights,” he added.
