Cyclist Killed in West Hollywood Hit-and-Run; Authorities Searching for Suspect

West Hollywood, CA, (July 07, 2025) - The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is actively searching for a suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a bicyclist Thursday night in West Hollywood.

Hit-and-run PosterBlake Ackerman tragically lost his life Thursday night after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding his bicycle along Fountain Avenue in West Hollywood.

According to investigators, Blake Ackerman was riding his bicycle westbound on Fountain Avenue near Gardner Street at approximately 9:47 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. The driver did not stop and fled the scene.

Ackerman was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities believe the suspect was driving an older model white BMW sedan, which may have sustained damage to the windshield and passenger side. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact investigators at 310-855-8850.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

In many hit-and-run cases, at-fault drivers flee the scene in hopes of evading responsibility. However, when apprehended, these individuals often face serious criminal charges.

According to the American Automobile Association (AAA) Foundation for Traffic Safety, more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute on U.S. roads, with an average of 682,000 hit-and-run incidents each year since 2006.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation to protect the rights of victims and their families.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “Factors such as road conditions, visibility, and lighting all need to be carefully examined.”

These critical steps, Bond added, help ensure that families who have lost loved ones to hit-and-run drivers can pursue justice and receive the compensation they rightfully deserve.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Blake Ackerman may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims in such tragic accidents can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, pain and suffering, and other damages associated with their loved one’s untimely death.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families must endure, and protecting their rights is absolutely vital. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are safeguarded.”

Bond added, “An experienced attorney can stand between grieving families and powerful insurance companies, while meticulously investigating the facts surrounding the crash. Their role is to advocate for the family with compassion and determination, working to secure the justice and compensation they deserve.”
