At least three people were injured Thursday in Fresno in a multi-vehicle collision involving a pedestrian and an alleged drunk driver.
The collision occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Olive and Cedar Avenues. Police say 35-year-old Guadalupe Vidro crashed her vehicle, triggering a chain reaction that involved four vehicles. Investigators determined that Vidro was under the influence at the time of the crash.
Three individuals were transported to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. The condition of the pedestrian involved was not immediately released.
Vidro was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The incident remains under investigation.
WI CRASH INVESTIGATION
Despite increased enforcement efforts, impaired drivers continue to endanger the lives of innocent people on roadways across the nation.
According to the National Safety Council, approximately 800 people are injured every day in the United States due to drunk driving crashes. In California alone, 1,479 individuals were killed in alcohol-related crashes in 2022—a nearly 2% increase from the previous year—accounting for roughly one-third of all traffic fatalities in the state.
Driving under the influence significantly impairs judgment, slows reaction time, reduces coordination, and affects vision—all of which dramatically increase the risk of a serious or fatal collision. Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney and Managing Partner at Bond Legal, offered insight into such cases.
“Drivers who operate a vehicle while intoxicated and cause injury or death may face criminal charges,” said Bond. “In addition to criminal accountability, the family of a victim may also pursue justice through a civil lawsuit and seek compensation from the responsible party.”
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
The individuals injured in this collision may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim. According to Candice Bond, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, the aftermath of a serious injury can be life-altering—impacting a person’s family, employment, finances, and overall well-being.
“Although no amount of compensation can undo the pain caused by a severe injury, it is crucial that victims understand their legal rights and what they may be entitled to under the law,” Bond said. “Injured individuals may be eligible to seek recovery for a range of damages, including medical expenses, future treatment, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.”
