Two killed in Highway 59 crash near Dos Palos, including San Jose man

MERCED, CA, (September 14, 2025) - Two people were killed in a head-on collision Sunday night in Merced County, including Tyler Alexander Jackson, 29, of San Jose, the California Highway Patrol reported.

police lights car crashTyler Alexander Jackson, a resident of San Jose, was one of two people killed in a car crash Sunday night on Highway 59 in Merced County.

The crash happened on Highway 59 near Dos Palos, just south of Washington Road, after a 2019 Toyota Camry traveling southbound crossed into the northbound lane and struck Jackson’s 2016 Toyota Camry. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said the crash was reported via an iPhone crash detection alert, and the investigation is ongoing.

Earlier that day, a separate head-on collision in Fresno County on American Avenue resulted in the death of a Reedley man.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Experts say due to the combined impact force and the direction of energy transfer in a head-on collision, there is always a possibility that a vehicle occupant may be severely injured or killed. Driver negligence, including distraction, excessive speed, and improper passing, are the main contributing factors in these crashes.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, said in cases such as this, it is imperative to have an independent probe conducted into the crash by a seasoned lawyer to protect the rights of the victim’s family.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the family of the victim must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened before or after a crash,” said Bond.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Tyler Alexander Jackson may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“A wrongful death lawyer will stay informed on the official investigation and help ensure that the victim’s legal rights and best interests are fully protected.”
