The deadly accident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on Saturday along Highway 70 near 24th Street. Early reports indicate that five individuals occupied one of the vehicles involved, while the second car carried just its driver. Also killed in the crash were a teenager from Oroville and a Sacramento resident, whose identities have been released in separate statements.

Authorities confirmed that one of the injured individuals was airlifted to a trauma center. The investigation remains ongoing, though excessive speed is being considered a potential contributing factor.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that nearly 41,000 people died in roadway incidents across the U.S. in 2023, a slight decrease from the previous year.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Because of the intense impact typically involved in head-on collisions, serious or fatal injuries are sadly common. Investigators often explore elements such as distraction, unsafe speed, and improper lane changes or passing in these types of incidents.

Attorney Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of a prompt and thorough review in fatal crash cases.

“Gathering critical evidence early can help paint a clearer picture of what happened,” Bond noted. “Families deserve answers, and sometimes a skilled accident reconstruction team is needed to help uncover the truth.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Salma Ramirez-Lujano may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Loved ones of those lost in tragic accidents may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages related to the loss.

The emotional toll of losing someone unexpectedly can be overwhelming. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation closely and work to ensure the family's legal rights are upheld and their best interests protected.
