1-year-old fatally struck in Dec. 19 crash at local school

SAN ANTONIO, TX, (December 19, 2024) - The Bexar County Sheriff's Office says the 1-year-old girl critically injured in a Dec. 19 accident at a local school has tragically passed away.

FlowersMKaya Amrani died after she was hit by a vehicle at Excelled Montessori on Dec. 19 in San Antonio.

According to authorities, a vehicle crashed through a fence at Excelled Montessori in San Antonio striking a teacher and five children who were playing around 4 p.m.

One of the children, identified as MKaya Amrani, tragically succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital on Thursday.

A 22-year-old teacher also died from injuries she sustained in the crash.

Four other children were hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 42,514 people lost their lives in a reported 5,930,496 motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2022.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of any investigations, the family of MKaya Amrani may pursue a wrongful death claim. Survivors of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

Bond, a national legal analyst for Newsline, said, “Grieving families of victims are sometimes overwhelmed by the legal processes that are in place to protect their rights. An attorney can be a valuable and compassionate resource to help guide a family during difficult times and ensure that those left behind receive the restitution they are entitled to.”

“No amount of money is enough for a victim or their family to deal with the trauma and pain they experienced after a catastrophic crash. However, an attorney can help ease the financial burden and provide a path forward,” Bond stated.
