Saturday night wreck with pickup truck was on State Road 33

LAKELAND, FL, (September 21, 2024) - One person died and four others were injured Saturday night in a head-on motor vehicle accident in Lakeland.

Head-on CrashOne person died and four others were injured Saturday night in a head-on motor vehicle accident on State Road 33 in Lakeland.

According to the Lakeland Police Department, a Toyota sedan heading southbound along State Road 33 traveled across the roadway and struck a northbound Toyota pickup truck head-on shortly before 9 p.m.

Four people traveling in the pickup were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the sedan, 50-year-old Maurice Knight, died at the site of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION

The most common cause of head-on accidents is driver error. However, they are also caused by speeding, distracted driving, drunken driving, poor road design, inexperienced drivers, and confusion from the driver.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 42,915 people lost their lives in motor vehicle crashes in the United States in 2021, an increase of over 10 percent from 2020.

“Contributing factors to be examined include road conditions, visibility, and lighting,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The victims may have the right to pursue personal injury claims pending an investigation.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.”

"Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” he added.
