Thursday night crash involving SUV was on Highway 17

GEORGETOWN, SC, (October 10, 2024) - A 46-year-old man lost his life Thursday night in a vehicle vs. pedestrian accident in Georgetown County.

Pedestrian AccidentKevin Harrell was fatally injured Thursday night when an SUV struck him along Highway 17 in Georgetown County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP), Kevin Harrell, of Pawleys Island, was walking westbound across Highway 17 when a southbound 2002 Ford SUV struck him at approximately 7:15 p.m.

Harrell was rushed to a local hospital, where he sadly passed away.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

This tragic accident underscores the dangers that pedestrians face every day in this country.

According to data from the Governors Highway Safety Association, the number of pedestrian fatalities in the United States has grown substantially faster than all other traffic deaths. An estimated 7,342 pedestrian fatalities occurred in 2021, an increase of 13 percent from the previous year.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond, an experienced pedestrian attorney.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Kevin Harrell may pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

"In the wake of a catastrophic accident, families deserve peace of mind. Completing an independent investigation while big insurance corporations want to weaken your case requires an attorney with full knowledge of the complex legal process and resources to fight by your side.

"Losing a loved one due to someone else’s negligence is an unimaginable tragedy. While no amount of compensation can bring them back, an experienced attorney can hold responsible parties accountable and help secure justice for your family."
