Deadly Crash on 15 Freeway Near Foothill Boulevard Exit

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA, (September 02, 2025) - A crash between a sedan and an 18-wheeler on Tuesday night in Rancho Cucamonga claimed the life of 28-year-old Karina L. Abarca of Garden Grove, authorities reported.

police lights car crashA 28-year-old Garden Grove woman was killed Tuesday night in Rancho Cucamonga after a crash involving a sedan and a semi tractor-trailer.

The collision occurred around 10:12 p.m. in the middle lanes of southbound Interstate 15, just before the Foothill Boulevard exit. The sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry, became wedged under the rear of the tractor-trailer. Two additional vehicles were reportedly involved in the wreck.

It was unclear whether Abarca was driving or a passenger. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Each year, road accidents claim thousands of lives in the U.S. While multiple factors are involved, unsafe driver behavior—speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, and distracted driving such as texting or phone use—accounts for the majority of fatal crashes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that 8,055 lives were lost in motor vehicle collisions during the first quarter of 2025.

While the cause and liability of the crash are being investigated, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, said that it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for The Legal Advocate.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this one, and the victim’s family must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Karina L. Abarca may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“Losing a loved one is not only a deeply emotional loss but also an economic one,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“If your loved one was killed due to someone else’s negligence, it is important to contact a wrongful death attorney to receive guidance and pursue the justice and compensation you deserve.”
