The deadly crash occurred along Century Boulevard near San Pedro Street in Los Angeles.
LOS ANGELES, CA, (June 01, 2025) -
A tragic hit-and-run crash in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood of Los Angeles claimed the life of 34-year-old bicyclist Jose Villalobos on the night of June 1. According to the LAPD South Traffic Division, Villalobos was riding westbound on Century Boulevard near San Pedro Street at about 11:10 p.m. when he was struck by a speeding Chevrolet Camaro. He died at the scene.
Jose Villalobos, 34, was tragically killed late Sunday night when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in the Broadway-Manchester neighborhood of Los Angeles, authorities reported.
Authorities say the Camaro’s driver fled after turning onto San Pedro Street, and efforts to locate the suspect remain ongoing.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
A driver fleeing the scene of a crash can mean the difference between life and death. In 2023, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported 1,166 pedalcyclist fatalities, with 23% involving a hit-and-run driver.
“Bicyclists are especially vulnerable in traffic, and various factors—from speed to visibility—can contribute to devastating crashes,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“It’s critical to determine the exact cause of such accidents. An attorney can examine all aspects of the case, including insurance coverage, witness testimony, and expert analysis, to help families navigate the legal process.”
Bond added, “While criminal charges are appropriate for hit-and-run drivers, victims and their families may also pursue a civil lawsuit for compensation—independent of the criminal proceedings.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Jose Villalobos may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages stemming from this tragic accident.
“Grieving families are often overwhelmed by the legal complexities following a sudden loss,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“An attorney can serve as both a compassionate guide and a powerful advocate, helping ensure that the rights of those left behind are protected and that they receive the justice and compensation they deserve.”
