Oct. 22 collision happened along County Road 37
MONTICELLO, MN, (October 28, 2024) - Janice Evelyn Johnson, a 92-year-old resident of Arden Hills, has died from injuries sustained in a head-on collision on Oct. 22 in Wright County. Johnson was a passenger in an SUV when a 19-year-old driver attempted to overtake slower vehicles on County Road 37.
Janice Johnson lost her life after the vehicle she was a passenger in was struck by another car making a pass on Wright County Road 37.
As the young driver maneuvered, he encountered another vehicle that accelerated, blocking his return to the lane. In an attempt to avoid a collision, both he and the SUV swerved left, resulting in the tragic crash.
While Johnson succumbed to her injuries at Hennepin County Medical Center, the driver and two other SUV passengers survived, though a Honda passenger sustained serious injuries, including broken bones.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the factors leading to this heartbreaking accident.
CRASH INVESTIGATION
In 2018, the U.S. Department of Transportation Fatality Analysis Reporting System recorded 33,654 fatal motor vehicle crashes in the United States, resulting in 36,560 deaths.
“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all potential contributing factors that are considered and examined,” stated Candice Bond, an experienced attorney and Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“Sometimes, an accident reconstruction team is required to piece together what happened. All these resources are essential in helping clients receive financial compensation for damages or a loss after an accident,” added Bond.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the investigation, the family of Janice Johnson could pursue a wrongful death claim. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.
“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Bond.
“We understand the hardships that families face, and it's crucial to protect their rights. A wrongful death lawyer will keep abreast of the official investigation and ensure that their legal rights and best interests are safeguarded."
