MISSION HILLS, CA, (June 22, 2025) - A pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle Sunday night in Mission Hills has been identified as 32-year-old Frederic Yelland-Ruiz, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

Police Lights car crashFrederic Yelland-Ruiz, 32, was fatally struck by a vehicle Sunday night in Mission Hills, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the 1500 block of Rinaldi Street. Authorities say Yelland-Ruiz was hit by an unknown driver and suffered multiple blunt force injuries. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Cities across the U.S. have spent millions to improve road safety, yet pedestrian fatalities continue to climb. According to a recent report from the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), an estimated 2,304 pedestrians were struck and killed in the first half of 2024 alone.

“In most instances, pedestrians possess the right of way when crossing an intersection or a street, even if they are not in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a veteran pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond emphasized the importance of independent investigations in such cases to uncover all contributing factors and protect the rights of grieving families. “A seasoned attorney can ensure critical evidence is preserved and challenge any inaccuracies in the initial reports,” she added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. The family of Frederic Yelland-Ruiz may be entitled to a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident,” said Bond.

Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family through this difficult time while protecting their rights.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout for far less than the case is worth,” Bond noted. “However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
