Man in his 60s struck, killed in Tuesday afternoon crash on South Bundy Drive
LOS ANGELES, CA, (August 05, 2025) - A man who was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday afternoon in West Los Angeles has been identified as 60-year-old Francis Shim, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. His cause of death was listed as multiple blunt force traumatic injuries.
Francis Shim, 60, was tragically struck and killed by a wrong-way driver who fled the scene Tuesday afternoon in West Los Angeles, authorities said.
The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. in the 2400 block of South Bundy Drive.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, a vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Bundy Drive, just south of Pico Boulevard, when it struck Shim, who was standing along the curb in the roadway. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The driver fled following the collision and has not yet been identified.
The crash remains under investigation.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
If you are involved in a hit-and-run, the law says to share information and notify emergency services. Most importantly, timely medical assistance can save someone’s life. Between 2013 and 2019, hit-and-run crashes accounted for about 20% of pedestrian fatalities, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney and a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.
“Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice that they deserve.”
Added Bond, the national analyst for The Legal Advocate, “The driver always has to take great care behind the wheel.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Francis Shim may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members may seek compensation for damages such as loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress stemming from a tragic and preventable accident.
“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.
“We understand the immense hardship families face and how important it is to ensure their rights are protected. A wrongful death attorney can remain closely involved with the investigation and advocate to safeguard the family’s legal interests during such a devastating time.”
