FATAL HIT-AND-RUN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION
More than one in every 10 fatal crashes in California is a hit-and-run, putting the state at the top of a concerning list.
Of the 18,137 fatal crashes in California from 2017 to 2021, 1,901, or 10.48 percent, were hit-and-run. That’s the highest total number of fatal hit-and-runs in the nation and much higher than the national rate of 6.33 percent, per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Many suspects flee the scene because they are intoxicated, driving without a license, or are concerned about being arrested if they remain.
Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said in cases such as this that it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney to protect a victim’s rights.
“Having the proper resources is crucial to investigating a hit-and-run accident case and proving negligence,” said Bond, a Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all potential contributing factors that are considered and must be thoroughly examined. These procedures are necessary for helping someone who has lost a loved one at the hands of a hit-and-run driver receive the justice and monetary compensation that they deserve.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
The family of the woman killed in this accident may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Such claims can help recover medical and funeral expenses, loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
“An incident is considered a wrongful death when a person or entity engages in a negligent or reckless act that results in someone’s death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “When fatalities occur due to unsafe driving, distracted or aggressive behavior, speeding, or driving under the influence, families often have the right to take legal action against those responsible.”
