Deadly crash occurred at Western Avenue and 83rd Street, officials report

MANCHESTER SQUARE, CA, (June 27, 2025) - A 62-year-old man was tragically killed Friday night in a hit-and-run collision in the Manchester Square neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Hit and Run posterDanny Etis, 62, was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash Friday night in Manchester Square, authorities said.

Authorities identified the victim as Danny Etis. The fatal crash occurred shortly after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Western Avenue and 83rd Street.

Preliminary reports indicate that a light-colored, possibly white, SUV was traveling northbound on Western Avenue when it struck Etis, who was crossing the street. The driver fled the scene and was last seen continuing north on Western Avenue.

Etis died at the scene from his injuries. His city of residence has not yet been disclosed.

LAPD is urging anyone with information to contact the South Traffic Division at 213-677-9924. The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Fleeing the scene of a crash is not only illegal—it can also cost lives. Remaining at the site and rendering aid can be the critical difference between life and death for a victim. Yet, some drivers choose to flee, hoping to escape responsibility.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, hit-and-run incidents involving pedestrians rose by 12% in 2022, highlighting a troubling trend on state roadways.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney and Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and lighting are just some of the contributing factors that must be carefully examined,” Bond added. “These investigative procedures are vital in helping families pursue justice for their loved ones.”

As Bond, a national legal analyst for The Legal Advocate, emphasized: “Drivers have a legal and moral obligation to exercise extreme caution behind the wheel and stay at the scene when an accident occurs.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

As the investigation into the fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of Danny Etis continues, his family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Such claims can help families seek justice and recover damages for emotional distress, pain and suffering, and the loss of companionship.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families are forced to endure in the aftermath of a tragic loss. A wrongful death attorney can help ensure their legal rights are protected while closely following the investigation,” Bond added.
