pedestrian hit killedChristi Kohr was fatally struck by a vehicle on El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego, authorities reported.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Despite San Diego adopting Vision Zero in 2015, pedestrian fatalities have continued to rise. In 2021 alone, the city reported 102 pedestrian deaths and 238 injuries, with failure to yield by drivers cited as a common factor, according to the Traffic Safety Dashboard.

“In most instances, pedestrians have the right of way when crossing a street or intersection, whether or not they are in a marked crosswalk,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

Bond emphasized the importance of launching an independent investigation in cases like this to ensure the victim’s family’s rights are fully protected.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. The family of Christi Kohr may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress after a tragic or catastrophic accident,” Bond explained.

“Insurance companies often pressure families to accept quick settlements that are far less than what the case is truly worth,” she added. “A dedicated attorney will advocate tirelessly to ensure the family is treated with respect and receives full and fair compensation.”
