CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Even law-abiding cyclists are at risk of being struck by vehicles due to a range of factors, including distracted or reckless driving, failure to yield, poor road conditions, speeding, and inadequate lighting.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 1,084 bicyclists were killed in crashes involving motor vehicles in 2022—the highest number on record. Since 1975, bicyclist fatalities have increased by 8 percent.
Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and an experienced bicycle accident attorney, emphasized the importance of a thorough, independent investigation in cases like this to protect the rights of the victim’s family.
“Proper resources are essential when investigating a bicycle accident and establishing driver negligence,” Bond said. “Road conditions, visibility of signage, and street lighting are all critical factors that must be carefully reviewed. These steps are vital in ensuring that the grieving family’s legal rights are upheld.”
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
The family of Carissa Marie Sileo may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. In the aftermath of a tragic or catastrophic accident, surviving family members can seek compensation for emotional distress, pain and suffering, and loss of companionship.
“We understand the immense grief families endure during these times, and protecting their rights is absolutely essential,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation closely and work to ensure the family’s best interests are fully represented.”
“Loved ones have the right to pursue damages for the profound loss they’ve suffered,” Bond added. “An attorney will serve as both advocate and guide, helping the family through this difficult process with compassion and determination.”
