Saturday evening fire reported along Altadena Avenue in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA, (June 29, 2025) - A patio cooking accident sparked a fire that injured one person and damaged several patios at a Colina Del Sol apartment complex Saturday evening.
One person was injured Saturday evening in a patio cooking fire at an apartment complex in San Diego’s Colina Del Sol neighborhood.
San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded around 5 p.m. to the 4300 block of Altadena Avenue, where flames had spread across multiple patios and a fence, threatening a nearby apartment building. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines to contain the blaze, successfully preventing it from reaching the larger structure.
All residents evacuated safely before firefighters arrived. One person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
A total of 32 SDFD personnel were involved in extinguishing the fire, which was fully under control by 7 p.m. Crews remained on site afterward to inspect for hot spots, including the attic. No additional injuries were reported.
APARTMENT FIRE INVESTIGATION
The thought of a fire breaking out in your home is frightening enough—but for those living in multi-family apartment buildings, the risks can be even greater. Unfortunately, some landlords and property management companies fail to follow safety regulations designed to protect tenants, putting lives in danger.
Common safety issues include missing or poorly marked evacuation routes, malfunctioning fire doors, outdated electrical systems, and aging appliances that pose fire hazards.
“Landlords carry a significant responsibility to protect their tenants,” said Gerald Singleton, an attorney with Bond Legal who has extensive experience litigating apartment fire cases. “When those obligations are ignored, the consequences can be devastating—especially in densely populated residential complexes.”
Neglect in maintaining even a single part of a shared building can quickly escalate into a life-threatening situation for everyone inside.
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
A victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim following a thorough investigation into the incident.
“Injured victims involved in fires often file personal injury claims to recover costs related to medical treatment, ongoing care, lost wages, emotional distress, and pain and suffering,” said Gerald Singleton, an attorney with Bond Legal.
“Insurance companies are often more focused on limiting payouts than addressing the true financial burden placed on victims,” Singleton added. “An experienced attorney can intervene on behalf of the injured, holding insurers accountable and ensuring victims receive the compensation they deserve.”
