Pedestrian killed Wednesday night in DUI-related crash near South 12th and Vassault streets

TACOMA, WA, (November 27, 2024) - A pedestrian was tragically killed Wednesday night in a hit-and-run accident in Tacoma.

Pedestrian Hit-and-RunAnthony Albers was charged with DUI vehicular homicide after a Wednesday night hit-and-run accident fatally injured a pedestrian in Tacoma.

According to the Tacoma Police Department, a pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed struck a pedestrian near South 12th Street and Vassault Street around 6:49 p.m.

The victim tragically passed away at the site of the crash.

The driver of the pickup fled the scene, but a suspect, Anthony Thomas Albers, was later identified and arrested. Investigators say he appeared impaired when they located him, resulting in various charges including DUI vehicular homicide, failure to remain at an accident resulting in death, and reckless driving.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

In most cases involving hit-and-runs, the at-fault drivers feel they can avoid the consequences of their actions if they leave the scene. However, a suspect will face charges when apprehended.

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, but sadly statistics indicate that more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute on U.S. roads.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said in such cases it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney promptly to protect the rights of a victim.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” said Bond.

These procedures are necessary for helping someone who has lost a loved one at the hands of a hit-and-run driver receive the justice and monetary compensation they deserve.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of any investigations, the family of the victim may pursue a wrongful death claim. Survivors of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

Bond, a national legal analyst for Newsline, said, “Grieving families of victims are sometimes overwhelmed by the legal processes that are in place to protect their rights. An attorney can be a valuable and compassionate resource to help guide a family during difficult times and ensure that those left behind receive the restitution they are entitled to.”

“No amount of money is enough for a victim or their family to deal with the trauma and pain they experienced after a catastrophic crash. However, an attorney can help ease the financial burden and provide a path forward,” Bond stated.
