Bicyclist dies in crash on Carlsbad Boulevard, officials report
CARLSBAD, CA, (September 13, 2025) - Carlsbad police arrested a 27-year-old Escondido resident early Saturday following a deadly hit-and-run involving a bicyclist.
A 27-year-old driver from Escondido is accused of fatally striking a bicyclist and fleeing without providing aid early Saturday in Carlsbad.
Authorities said the crash happened at about 4:34 a.m. in the 4400 block of Carlsbad Boulevard. Responding officers found the victim lying unconscious in the roadway, where they were pronounced dead. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s name.
With the assistance of witnesses and license plate reader technology, officers tracked down the suspect, Alexander Gendron, roughly a mile from the crash scene.
Gendron has been booked on multiple charges, including suspicion of fleeing the scene of a fatal collision. Police continue to investigate the crash.
The incident comes just weeks after a 61-year-old woman was killed in another hit-and-run crash on Sea World Drive in San Diego.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
Hit-and-run drivers may hope to avoid justice, but their escape can mean the difference between life and death for the victim.
Unlike people traveling in vehicles, bicyclists do not have the protection of seat belts, airbags, and other safety features and are vulnerable every time they are on the roadways. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 1,105 bicyclists were killed in motor-vehicle traffic crashes in 2022, a 13% increase from 976 in 2021.
“Bicyclists are particularly vulnerable on the road, and many factors can contribute to serious crashes,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal and an experienced bicycle accident attorney.
“It is imperative to come to a determination of the exact cause of these types of accidents. An attorney has the resources to review applicable insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, run background checks, and locate witnesses. We carefully guide the family of the victim through the process.
Bond noted that in cases such as this, it is important to have an independent investigation conducted sooner than later to preserve any evidence.
WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM
Pending the results of the investigation, the family members of the bicyclist killed in the crash may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Survivors of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident such as this.
Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, said, “Grieving families are often overwhelmed by the legal processes designed to protect their rights.”
“An attorney can be a compassionate and valuable resource, guiding families during this difficult time and ensuring that those left behind receive the restitution they deserve.”
