It happened along Colgate Avenue near Watson Avenue, authorities say
SOUNDVIEW, NY, (December 16, 2024) - On Monday morning in the Bronx’s Soundview section, a vehicle crashed into a New York City sanitation worker, leaving him critically injured, according to police.
(GoFundMe: Ahmad Ladson)A New York City sanitation worker—Ahmad Ladson—was badly hurt after being hit by a vehicle while performing his duties along Colgate Avenue in the Bronx’s Soundview section Monday morning.
Ahmad Ladson was removing the trash along Colgate Avenue near Watson Avenue around 8 a.m. when a Toyota Highlander slammed into him, pinning the 32-year-old worker against the edge of the sanitation truck’s hopper. He then fell onto the middle of the street and was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center, where his condition remains critical.
A GoFundMe has been created for Ladson, who has worked for the Sanitation Department for about two years.
The driver of the SUV was reportedly unhurt, police said. No charges have been announced yet.
This is an ongoing investigation.
CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2021, there were an estimated 60,577 pedestrians injured in traffic crashes, an 11-percent increase from 54,771 pedestrians injured in 2020.
“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.
“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” added Bond. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice that they deserve.”
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
Ahmad Ladson may have the right to pursue a personal injury suit pending an investigation.
Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Newsline, said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.”
“Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with mounting expenses that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” she added.
