Pedestrian killed in crash with alleged DUI driver on Oceanside Blvd.

OCEANSIDE, CA, (September 25, 2025) - A fatal hit-and-run Thursday night in Oceanside claimed the life of a pedestrian, police said.

HandcuffsYolanda Orozco was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run after allegedly killing a pedestrian on Oceanside Boulevard Thursday night.

The Oceanside Police Department reported that a 2020 Ford Ranger pickup truck struck a man near El Camino Real on Oceanside Boulevard at approximately 10:20 p.m. The driver fled, and the victim later died from his injuries.

Yolanda Orozco, 65, of Oceanside, was arrested after being located at a nearby residence, where she reportedly admitted to involvement in the collision. She faces charges of felony hit-and-run, with DUI and additional charges expected.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.

HIT-AND-RUN INVESTIGATION NEEDED

By law, any motorist involved in an accident is required to remain at the scene until authorities arrive. However, statistics indicate that more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute on U.S. roads. Many suspects flee the scene because they are intoxicated, driving without a license, or are concerned about being arrested if they remain at the scene.

No state has more pedestrian deaths on its roadways than California. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), an estimated 7,148 pedestrians died on U.S. roadways in 2024, with 928 occurring in the state of California.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said in such cases it is imperative to have an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney promptly to protect the rights of a victim.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and prove negligence,” added Bond, a Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Road conditions, signage visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that must be fully considered. These procedures are necessary for helping someone who has been injured by a hit-and-run driver receive the justice and monetary compensation that they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. The family of the victim may be entitled to a wrongful death claim.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident,” Bond said.

Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide a family through this difficult time while protecting their rights.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure victims to settle for a quick payout far below the case’s value,” Bond noted. “However, an attorney will vigorously advocate for their client to ensure that they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
