Levy County Fatal Semi-Truck Accident September 2nd; Savannah Langford Killed in Tractor-Trailer CrashSavannah Langford tragically died Tuesday in a collision with a tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 19 in Levy County.

Florida Highway Patrol reported that Savannah Langford, a student at Dixie County Middle High School, was driving near Fanning Springs around 9 a.m. when her vehicle struck the trailer of an improperly parked semi-truck blocking the road.

Langford, a member of her school’s volleyball team, has been remembered by teammates and friends, who have launched a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses.

The circumstances of the accident that claimed Savannah’s life remain under investigation.

SEMI-TRUCK CRASH INVESTIGATION

Improperly parked semi-trucks are extremely dangerous to motorists and can cause collisions such as the one that took the teen’s life.

Improperly parked trucks block traffic lanes, are hard to spot, and occupy shoulder space. These factors increase the risk of severe accidents, such as head-on collisions or sideswipes, due to the truck's large size and weight. A fully-loaded big rig can weigh as much as 80,000 pounds.

According to the National Safety Council, semi-truck accidents claim approximately 4,900 lives annually. These numbers underscore the urgent need for increased vigilance and improved safety standards within the trucking industry. Candice Bond, an experienced semi-truck accident attorney, was interviewed and shared her thoughts on incidents like this.

“Tractor-trailer crashes are often complex, and many factors can play a role in these types of accidents,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “A lawyer can advocate for you by hiring expert witnesses, conducting drivers’ background checks, locating witnesses to the crash, and reviewing applicable insurance coverage, while carefully guiding a grieving family through the legal process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Savannah Langford may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims can seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand just what families are forced to endure, and protecting their rights is essential,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will stay informed on the official investigation and help ensure the family’s best interests are represented. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to pursue compensation for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress resulting from such a tragedy.”
