Deadly wreck happened on Locust Hill Road near Dean Williams Road, Highway Patrol says

TRAVELERS REST, SC, (October 21, 2024) - A head-on collision in Travelers Rest Monday afternoon left one person dead and injured two others, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP).

fatal crash car Richard L. Sprague, 47, lost his life as a result of a two-vehicle collision along Locust Hill Road in Travelers Rest Monday afternoon, according to the Highway Patrol.

The tragedy unfolded around 1:20 p.m. along Locust Hill Road near the intersection of Dean Williams Road.

Per the Highway Patrol, a 2014 Ford Escape was traveling east on the roadway when it collided head-on with a westbound 2011 Honda CR-Z. Tragically, the driver of the Honda—identified by the Greenville County Coroner’s Office as 47-year-old Richard L. Sprague—died at the scene.

Two occupants of the Ford were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries, officials said.

The crash is under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Although only 2% of motor vehicle accidents are head-on in the United States, they account for over 10% of all crash-related fatalities. The NHTSA also reports that in 2019, alcohol-impaired driving fatalities accounted for 28% of all motor vehicle traffic fatalities.

Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, said in cases such as this, it is imperative to have an independent probe conducted into the crash by a seasoned lawyer to protect the rights of the victim’s family.

“Time is of the essence in cases such as this, and the family of the victim must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Richard L. Sprague may pursue a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“In the wake of a catastrophic accident, families deserve peace of mind. Completing an independent investigation while big insurance corporations want to weaken your case requires an attorney with full knowledge of the complex legal process and resources to fight by your side.

“Losing a loved one due to someone else’s negligence is an unimaginable tragedy. While no amount of compensation can bring them back, an experienced attorney can hold responsible parties accountable and help secure justice for your family.”
