A 41-year-old Syracuse man was tragically killed when he was run over by an asphalt-paving roller Friday in the Town of Clay.Rendolph Larose died after being run over by an asphalt-paving roller at the Glenn Crossing Plaza shopping center on Oswego Road.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:53 p.m. in the parking lot of Glenn Crossing Plaza, located on Route 57. Authorities said the roller was being operated by an employee of Orchard Earth and Pipe, a Solvay-based company.

Larose was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragic incident remains under investigation.

FATAL ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION NEEDED

A NIOSH review of Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data from 1992 to 2001 identified 282 fatalities related to road grading and surfacing machinery, including 70 involving rollers or compactors. A separate analysis of road construction site fatalities from 2003 to 2010 revealed that nearly half of the 962 worker deaths were caused by being struck by a vehicle or mobile equipment.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation in cases involving industrial or construction-related fatalities.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate an accident case and prove negligence,” said Bond, an experienced accident attorney and national legal analyst for The Legal Advocate.

“Conditions, visibility, and road lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must be thoroughly examined. These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice that they deserve.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Rendolph Larose may be entitled to a wrongful death claim.

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to exercise caution around pedestrians and workers, especially in construction zones,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for The Legal Advocate.

“Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”

Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help compassionately guide families through this difficult time while ensuring their rights are protected.

“Insurance companies often try to pressure grieving families into settling for a quick payout that is far less than what the case is truly worth,” Bond added.

“However, an experienced attorney will vigorously advocate for their clients to ensure they are treated with respect and compensated fairly.”
